How it works
Good home security works in layers. See what we ask, how many points each layer is worth, and what your score means. Free, and nothing is sent unless you ask.
Good home security works in layers. If one layer fails, the next one still helps. We score your home on four layers, out of 100 points.
Makes your home look like a harder target.
We ask about: Outside lights, Wall or fence
Notices when someone is there.
We ask about: Alarm sensors, Outdoor sensors or beams, Cameras
Slows them down so help has time to arrive.
We ask about: Doors and windows, Gate and driveway
Gets help moving, and keeps working when the power fails.
We ask about: Monitoring and armed response, Power cuts, Using the alarm
If a question does not apply to you, for example you live in a flat with no driveway, choose "Not applicable". It is left out, and your score is worked out from the points that do apply.
The four layers (deter, detect, delay, respond) are a common way to describe layered security. The points, weights and score bands are our own simple choices, not an official standard or a security audit.
Each of the ten questions is worth a set number of points. Your answer earns some or all of them. Your score is the points you earned out of the points that apply to your home, shown out of 100. If a question does not apply to you, for example you live in a flat with no driveway, it is left out, so you are not marked down for it. The points and the bands are our own simple choices, not an official standard.
No. It is a short guide based on what you tell us. We have not seen your home, tested your alarm or visited your area. A technician can do that properly in a site visit.
With monitoring, a control room is told when your alarm goes off, and it contacts you. With armed response, officers are sent to your property for you. Many companies offer both. Ask exactly what you would get, and how long it usually takes.
Ask to see the company's PSIRA registration certificate, and check it on the PSIRA website. You can also ask whether the company is a member of SAIDSA, the industry body for alarm and response companies.
No. Your answers stay in your browser while you use the page. Nothing is sent unless you press Send on the form. If you do, WP Security gets your details and a short summary of your score.
